Component TrainingTM is the process of dividing the track into workable parts or bits and pieces that are easily mastered by both the handler and the dog.
Chaining or the stringing together basic track components is utilized to create all tracks. By breaking down the track into individual components your dog will learn to work through the components and solve problem areas preparing you and your dog for the task of navigating a complete track.
Using the Component Training method and following the exercises you will learn in Camp you will take home the knowledge to start chaining or putting together multiple components to build your tracks. For many exercises at the Camp the training concept will be to work on short, 150 to 250 yard, component tracks.
As your training advances in Camp you will find yourself running more complex transition and corner components and learning how to create tracks that fit almost any training area.

Starting your dog with, or introducing components into your training program will build a strong tracking foundation with the dog. As the dog masters one component, introduce another. Over time you will start chaining the together components to better utilize the field or areas you are working in. All of the components we work on at a Camp may not exist in your regional area. Differences in elevation, buildings, parking areas and types of cover will differ from one part of the country to another. We will walk you through the process of modifying what you learn at Camp to fit almost any site in the country.
Working with components will allow you as a handler to gain better perspective on a university or industral park to utilize the natural contours, landscaping and buildings to create challenging tracks to enhance your dog’s learning experience.
